The campaign for the July 31 legislative elections officially started on Sunday for 21 days. A calm and timid beginning because this day coincided – chance of the calendar – with the feast of Tabaski, Aïd-el-Kébir in the 95% Muslim country. But the various political camps did not fail to take the floor to mark the kick-off of the electoral competition.

The first day of the electoral campaign ended with statements by the representatives of the eight competing lists, during the dedicated daily newspaper on RTS, the Senegalese public television channel.
Earlier in the morning, President Macky Sall spoke at the exit of the Grand Mosque of Dakar following the Tabaski prayer. He called on political actors to banish violence during the upcoming election campaign, “ which is not a period of non-entitlement ».
The Head of State also encouraged avoiding the crossing of caravans and fights then he added that the State will act once morest people who will recruit thugs, whatever the political camp.
Ousmane Sonko, one of the figures of the main opposition coalition Yewi Askan Wi, also made a statement live on social networks from his stronghold in Ziguinchor, in Casamance in the south of the country.
He called on the Senegalese for a massive vote for their coalition in order to give the majority of the National Assembly to the opposition and to block a possible third candidacy of President Macky Sall.
