Elise Chabbey finished the Women’s Giro in 12th place despite troubled preparation. The Genevan also took 2nd place in the mountain classification in the most important women’s stage race.
In the fight for the polka dot jersey, Chabbey was beaten only by the American Kristen Faulkner, who had already convinced 3 weeks ago by winning a stage and finishing 2nd overall in the Tour de Suisse.
Chabbey, 29, had suffered from gastroenteritis the week before the Giro. Marlen Reusser, the 2nd top-level Swiss, did not start following her covid infection. This Giro was won for the third time, following 2018 and 2019, by the Dutch Olympic champion Annemiek van Vleuten.
