Delinquency and tourism: the ranking of the seaside resorts most affected by thefts

Le Figaro has established a ranking of the seaside resorts most affected in the summer by thefts once morest people and vehicles, which we reveal to you.

Getaways to the sea are often an opportunity to release the pressure and let your guard down. However, holidays or not, it is advisable to be vigilant, especially in this summer period when thefts increase. On this occasion, Le Figaro published on Friday, July 8, a ranking of seaside resorts according to their rate of thefts once morest people or targeting vehicles.

To do this, our colleagues analyzed the crime figures from the Ministry of the Interior for all seaside towns with fewer than 100,000 inhabitants classified as tourist resorts and with at least 150 three-star hotel rooms or more. We take stock.

Paca number one

There are many thieves in the coastal towns of the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur region. And it is on the side of Saint-Tropez that it will be necessary to be the most vigilant this summer. There is a rate of 74.3 non-violent thefts once morest people per 1,000 inhabitants and 16.6 once morest vehicles. Indicators which are also explained by the high attendance of the city in summer. If the year the city has only 3,800 inhabitants, its population is multiplied by eight in summer, recalls Capital.

In second place, Soorts-Hossegor even records a higher rate for people (76.1) but fewer vehicle thefts.

On the third step of the podium, a town in Occitania this time: Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, which records the highest rate of vehicle theft in France.

It follows in the top 10, still in the region, La Grande-Motte. Le Grau du Roi, in the Gard, is not left out when it comes to crime either. Also in the South, Grimaud en Paca and Ramatuelle. Then further north comes Deauville in Normandy.

Reminder of precautions

Le Figaro recalls that the authorities recommend not leaving your keys in the ignition in your vehicle, even during a very brief stop. It is also necessary to ensure that the doors are properly closed, not to leave any valuables, even concealed, inside and to prefer secure parking when possible.

At the beach, bring the bare minimum. Always keep an eye on your towel, even when you’re in the water.
