A boa was captured this Saturday in Frasnes-lez-Anvaing. This is the second snake of this species discovered in Picardy Wallonia this week. The firefighters quickly intervened and the animal was entrusted to a specialist. He is now trying to find where he came from and if he has a link with the other snake found 10 kilometers away.
Another boa found in the Frasnes-lez-Anvaing region… And the firefighters intervened with great suspicion. First identified by passers-by, they took nearly an hour of research before getting their hands on it. “It’s very impressive. Especially since there is always the fear of the snake and when you don’t know regarding it, necessarily you don’t always know how to identify if it is poisonous or not”notes Eric Stasik, fire captain of the Wallonia Picardy rescue zone.
“Although this snake is not poisonous – I still want to repeat that, because otherwise we will really create panic in both Ath and Frasnes – it is still worth investigating”insists the mayor of Frasnes-lez-Anvaing, Carine de Saint Martin.
The ongoing investigation is already delivering some information: the one found Wednesday 10 km away and the one this Saturday are both boa constrictors, with the same colors, probably from the same breeding, says specialist Rudy Fourmy. “Now we would have to see if it’s a couple, we might even go as far as DNA sequencing to establish the relationship between the two specimens. But I wouldn’t be surprised if we came to the conclusion that they are brothers and sisters”points out the director and founder of Alphabiotoxine, a company specializing in the production of venoms and purified toxins.

The most probable hypothesis is that they escaped and that their breeder only noticed it too late. There is little chance that this is a voluntary abandonment, because these specimens are easily worth between 500 and 1,000 euros.
In our nature, the boa lives very well thanks to the high temperatures of recent days. But he lacks food and seeks warmth on the asphalt roads. This explains why we stumble upon it.
