Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has been condemned by the world, and the international community has supported Ukraine to resist the Russian invasion. In order to strengthen the long-range firepower of the Ukrainian army, the United States has provided Ukraine with eight sets of “Himas” High Mobility Multiple Rocket System (HIMARS). The United States announced today that it will add more Haimas launchers and new precision artillery ammunition to Ukraine, strengthening the Ukrainian military’s ability to target Russia’s arsenal and supply chain.
The latest $400 million supply of weapons includes four Seamas launchers and ammunition, according to senior U.S. defense officials, Agence France-Presse reported. Haimas launchers have helped Ukrainian forces target enemy targets outside the range of Russian artillery. The official noted that with the help of the Haimas launchers, “Ukraine has now successfully struck Russian strongholds in Ukraine farther from the front lines and undermined Russia’s ability to conduct artillery operations”.
The Haimas launcher has a range of regarding 64 kilometers, allowing the Ukrainian army to carry out precision strikes from further distances. At least 4 sets of Haimas launchers have arrived in Ukraine so far. Since the first Haimas launchers were delivered to Ukraine last month, analysts believe Ukrainian forces may have succeeded in destroying 12 or more Russian arsenals far behind the front lines.
U.S. military officials revealed to the media that following short-term training, the Ukrainian army has been able to use Haimas effectively so far, and has successfully achieved a series of victories. In addition, the arms supply to support Ukraine this time also includes 1,000 rounds of new 155mm artillery ammunition provided by Ukraine’s western allies. A senior U.S. defense official said the new artillery ammunition has a longer range and is more accurate, and has been provided by the U.S. Department of Defense before.
