Places in nursing homes are becoming more and more expensive. On average, prices have increased between 120 and 180 euros per month. The average price is now between 1,600 and 1,800 euros per month. Occupying a room in a nursing home is becoming more and more akin to luxury.
The explanation for this increase”is unfortunately very simple“, according to Vincent FredericqGeneral Secretary of the Federation of Rest Homes. “On has had extremely high inflation for just under a year. Nursing home prices inevitably follow the indexation. Operating costs increase considerably, energy costs, food costs and especially personnel costs.“
The occupancy rate of nursing homes has fallen since the health crisis. “We still have empty beds and this has an impact on the operating costs and the stability of the establishment. But nursing homes do not willingly increase their prices, quite the contrary, because they have an interest in having new residents.“
Vincent Fredericq specifies that the essential impact is the evolution of the index. “All what we hope is that inflation will calm down.“
