Iran tightens sanitary entry procedures amid rising COVID-19 cases

TEHRAN, July 9, 2022 (Xinhua) Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said on Saturday that travelers can only enter Iran following submitting negative COVID-19 test results and fully complying with Iranian health protocols, following the recent increase in infections.

Addressing a meeting of the National Anti-Covid-19 Task Force, Raisi called for more strict compliance with health regulations and instructions at all land, air and sea ports of Iran, according to the Iranian presidency website.

He highlighted the need to receive a booster dose of Covid-19 vaccines, noting that those with underlying medical conditions should take the necessary precautions in particular.

On Monday, daily cases in Iran exceeded 1,000 for the first time since April 27, according to the website of the Iranian Ministry of Health.

Iranian experts warn that two highly contagious sub-variants of Omicron will become the dominant strains in the country in the coming weeks.
