The Ministry of Health clarified the benefits of red meat and the harms resulting from its frequent consumption, and ways to preserve it to avoid the growth of bacteria and viruses inside it, in conjunction with the advent of the blessed Eid al-Adha.
The Ministry indicated that the benefits of red meat are that it is a good source of protein that helps build the body and muscles, in addition to being rich in vitamins and minerals such as: iron, zinc and vitamin B, and it is considered one of the main sources of vitamin B12.
She added that its damage lies in the fact that it contains a high percentage of saturated fat, and a lot of it raises the level of harmful cholesterol, which increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases, and it does not contain fiber, so it may cause bloating and constipation.
Regarding the correct way to preserve meat, the ministry called for not leaving meat outside the refrigerator or freezer for more than two hours to avoid the proliferation of meat microbes, placing it in airtight containers on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator, and leaving it in the refrigerator for at least 6 hours before placing it in the freezer, with cutting it. Cut into small pieces and distribute in bags before keeping.
She also advised that hands be dry and clean while handling meat, as well as placing them in the coldest place in the refrigerator or freezer at a temperature of less than -18 degrees Celsius.
With regard to dealing with scratches and wounds during the slaughter of the sacrifice, the ministry called for cleaning the wound and washing it with water only, and stopping the bleeding. .
She noted that going to the emergency department in several cases, including the continued bleeding of the wound or the presence of a foreign body in the wound, and if the patient is diabetic or has a special health condition, as well as if the wound is deep or unable to control it, and when noticing signs of infection such as: redness or swelling or increased pain;
