Burkina: President Damiba discusses with his predecessors to “multiply the chances of success” once morest terrorism

Ouagadougou, July 08, 2022(AIB)- The President of Faso, Lieutenant-Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba said on Friday that he had exchanged with his predecessors in order to “multiply the chances of success” once morest the terrorism which threatens, according to him, for six years, the foundations of Burkina Faso.

“In addition to the efforts provided by the Forces engaged, the entire population once morest terrorism, it seemed appropriate to us to examine with our predecessors the best conditions that will be able to create and forge a solid cohesion between Burkinabè; anything that will contribute to strengthening and multiplying our chances of success in the fight once morest the insecurity that threatens even the foundations of our dear country”.

These words were spoken on Friday by the President of Faso, Lieutenant-Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, following his meeting with former Presidents Jean-Baptiste Ouédraogo and Blaise Compaoré, who arrived from Côte d’Ivoire where he resides. since he fell from power in October 2014.

As a reminder, Burkina Faso has been facing terrorist attacks for six years which have taken the lives of several hundred people and caused the displacement of nearly 2 million others.

“We are convinced that it is only in social cohesion and unity that the Forces which are fighting terrorism at this very moment will be more determined and will have more success”, maintained Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba.

Former presidents Michel Kafando and Yacouba Isaac Zida were unable to make the trip due to health problems and administrative problems respectively, according to President Damiba.

Former President Roch Kaboré, overthrown on January 24, 2022 by President Damiba, was blocked at his home by activists opposed to his participation in the meeting.

In addition, several political parties, players in the judiciary and civil society organizations have called for the arrest of Blaise Compaoré, who was sentenced to life imprisonment last April in absentia for the assassination of President Thomas Sankara in October 1987.

“In Burkinabè who have expressed themselves once morest our approach, we tell them that the process is not made to consecrate impunity but to contribute to the search for solutions for a Burkina Faso of peace and cohesion. We call on them to put the best interests of the Nation above all political and partisan considerations,” urged Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba.

According to him, “the urgency of preserving the existence of our homeland requires a synergy of actions that do not allow us to give ourselves the luxury of wasting any time in controversy”.
