There is probably no one who would not consider a live Skunk Anansie show to be very good. Of course, that in turn puts you under more and more pressure with every new tour to confirm or even surpass yourself.
Martin „Ace“ Kent: That’s part of the job. You have to live with that if you want to be successful. We put a lot of effort and money into this project in order to get a great career out of it. There is a lot of energy, the chemistry is right and our crew is a big machine without which we four guys on stage would never function. The crew is responsible for ensuring that we can give 100 percent every night.
Skin: It’s not easy that everything works like this. You need years until the craft is musically good enough and you always want to get better. But it’s okay, because we don’t want to have an easy life. If we wanted that, we would play ready-made tracks with a few knob turns from the DJ booth. We want a challenge and believe in music as an art form. We want to be as good as possible and that’s what we’re working towards. There are a lot of rock bands, but a lot of them suck. I prepare for a tour for months. Voice training, fitness training, the show itself, the stage design, the costumes, the lighting effects, the set list – none of that just comes out of nowhere. I know we’re good at what we do and have something that a lot of other bands don’t have: good and honest chemistry with each other. Body, soul and heart interact. A lot of bands had that and later lost it. It was the same for us, but we fought back this combination.
