NBA Summer League 2022 – the recap of the night: episode 1!

As the Salt Lake City Summer League closed overnight with wins for Isaiah Joe’s Sixers and Ziaire Williams’ Grizzlies over Josh Giddey’s Thunder (Chet Holmgren was rested) and GOAT Bruno Caboclo’s Jazz … the July main event started at 4 a.m. with two highly anticipated matches. Two small matches as an aperitif of this Vegas SL, so we’ll sum it all up for you and we’ll make an appointment now, every morning at breakfast time until July 17th. Because the Summer League is LIFE.

The results of the night:

  • Magic – Rockets : 91-77
  • Blazers – Pistons : 78-81

Magic – Rockets : in one of the two huge duels of the night between rookies of the same class, the one between Paolo Banchero and Jabari Smith Jr. kept all its promises. We saw a Banchero that was quite impressive in terms of versatility and accuracy and a more discreet but very clean Jaba, and overall the opening match of this Summer League kept us spellbound. RJ Hampton, Caleb Houstan or Devin Cannady showed up for the Magic, Josh Christopher and Tari Eason did the same for Houston, and in the end the Magic won, even if we must clearly admit that we don’t care regarding the score in this kind of match. What we wanted was to gauge the talent of the n°1 and n°3 of the Draft, and this morning the objective was achieved with – already – the desire to see these two darlings once more very soon.

Blazers – Pistons : the second and last match of the night promised us a big duel between picks 5 and 7 of the Draft: Jaden Ivey and Shaedon Sharpe. Unfortunately the second named already adds a little salt to his strange medical file since he will leave following 5 minutes never to set foot on the floor once more. The Pistons fullback meanwhile confirmed that Detroit would be one of the place to be this season by sending 20 pawns in front of the mamma and the other rookie Jalen Duren to the alley-oop on his first possession. Killian Hayes dropped some big caviar at the start of the match, a certain Jules Bernard played (info that we thought it would be useful to bring you), and overall the Pistons therefore attacked this Summer League rather well once morest Blazers finally driven in attack by the trio of Keon Johnson / Brandon Williams / Jabari Walker, names well July well Vegas.
