Rafael Nadal’s hopes of achieving a rare achievement of winning the four major tennis titles in one Gregorian year were dashed following the Spaniard announced his withdrawal from the expected match once morest Australian Nick Kyrgios in the semi-finals due to an abdominal injury.
Nadal won the Australian and French Open titles this year and was dreaming of becoming the first player since Rod Laver in 1969 to complete the four major titles in one year.
