Joe doesn’t know how he survived the Silverstone accident

Chinese Guanyu Zhou revealed the details he experienced during the terrible accident he suffered at the start of the British Grand Prix, the tenth round of the 2022 season of the Formula 1 World Championship.

Joe had a violent accident in the first meters of the race, where his car ran into other cars, and his car continued to move at high speed to rise off the surface of the track, and then hit the metal barriers so that the car remained stuck between the metal barrier and the tire barrier.

Joe was upside down during that crash, with the crash structure above the cockpit shattering, relying on the halo design to protect his helmet.

While Joe completed all the necessary physical examinations to confirm his participation in the Austria tour, he spoke with the media regarding the details he experienced in that accident, stressing that he did not know how he might have survived.

Joe said, “I tried to sit in the safest position, and prepare for the last crash. I put my hand back, but I pulled too hard because I didn’t want my hand to come out of the cockpit in that last crash, and I did.”

He continued: “When the car stopped, I didn’t know where I was, I was upside down. I felt fluid leakage, but I did not know if it was due to an injury to my body, or if there was fluid leakage in the car.”

He added, “I tried to stop the car’s engine, and I knew that if a fire broke out, it would be very difficult to get out of the car. I switched off the engine and everything was fine.”

He continued, “But I did not know that I was between the metal fender and the tire fender. I felt close to the hurdles, but I was between two hurdles, so I don’t know how I might have succeeded. Looking back, Halo’s design is definitely what saved me.”
