Kuwait City: The nine-day Eid holiday in Kuwait will begin on Friday. Official holiday from Sunday 10th to Thursday 14th July. Nine days leave is obtained when the weekend holiday before and following it is added. Ministries and government departments which will be closed on Thursday, July 7 will open on Sunday, July 17. Since the schools are closed, many expatriates will be ready to go home using the extra days of leave they got. Many have already gone home. The airport is very crowded. Ticket prices are also high.
Prolonged government shutdowns will affect private companies and many individuals. Criticism was raised that close to one-third of a month’s leave would affect productivity and the country’s economic progress. Social media, including prominent people, are reacting that it is not wise to close banks and stock exchanges and officials should not be pushed into idleness. At the same time, getting more days off is beneficial for expatriates, including those going back home. A good percentage of Kuwaitis go abroad for holidays.
