The International Carthage Festival returns in its 56th session, following being obscured in the past two years due to the Corona virus pandemic, to be held from July 14 to August 20.
Kamal Al-Ferjani, director of the festival, said in a press conference, revealing the program of the new session: “We faced difficulties and challenges in organizing an ancient and distinguished festival nationally and regionally at the African, Mediterranean and international levels, in a narrow time space, and adjusting a rich and varied artistic programming close to the hearts of audiences from different countries. generations”.
He added, “The second challenge is the huge rise in the cost of musical performances. We live in a difficult public financial situation and all fields must be affected, including the cultural field and the Carthage Festival, so we chose to set a ceiling that we should not go beyond.”
Tunisian artists have often complained regarding the programs of previous festivals, saying that their numbers are few compared to foreign artists.
“We worked to win the Tunisian artist by giving him the lion’s share of performances, while maintaining the international dimension that characterizes the festival,” the director of the new session explained.
He added, “We won the Tunisian artist, but the session remained international with distinction, with the participation of artists from Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Libya, Syria, Egypt, Palestine, Lebanon, South Africa, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, France, Switzerland, South Korea, the United States, Italy, Cuba, Spain and Iran.”
The festival nights will open with the show “Lovers of the World” directed by Abdel Hamid Bushnak, which mixes the arts of theater, dance and singing, and is inspired by the TV series “The Nuba”.
The festival hosts a number of Arab song stars, including: Saber Al-Roba’e Ziad Gharsa from Tunisia, Ragheb Alama from Lebanon, Nour Muhanna from Syria, Faraj Suleiman from Palestine, musician and composer Naseer Shamma from Iraq, and the Qenawa Division from Algeria.
The festival dedicates an artistic show entitled “Rhythms in Memory” to honor Tunisian artists and musicians Solaf, Mohamed Reda, Ahmed Al-Zawiya and Bashir Al-Salmi.
In foreign performances, the festival will host the South Korean band Big, French singer Zaz, reggae star Alpha Blondie from Ivory Coast, and the show “Jacksons”.
The theater will have a share in the festival’s performances by presenting the play “We Die Against You” by Tunisian comedian Al-Amin Al-Nahdi, in addition to the Sufi show “Al-Hadara” by Fadel Al-Jaaibi, and a rap performance by the Tunisian star Balti.
