“The party goes on”
Slalom ace got engaged
Albert Popov in love high. The Bulgarian skier has proposed to his longtime girlfriend Denitsa Mari Chaeva.
Wedding bells will soon be ringing once more in the ski circus. After the Brit Dave Ryding (35), the Austrian Roland Leitinger (31) and the Italian cracks Elena Curtoni (31) and Giuliano Razzoli (37) said yes this summer, the next World Cup driver is going to tie the knot .
Slalom specialist Albert Popov (24) asked his longtime friend Denitsa Mari Chaeva all the questions. And she said yes. “The party goes on,” writes the Bulgarian on social media regarding photos in which his fiancée is beaming and holding her ring in the camera.
Fight back following serious accident
Popov suffered a stroke of fate early in his career. In November 2015, he suffered a serious accident together with his coach Drago Grubelnik and assistant coach Mitko Ristov. Her car overturned and fell 270 meters. Grubelnik died, Ristov was seriously injured, and Popov sustained injuries to his ankle and face.
He didn’t let that get him down and fought his way back. With a size of only 1.64 meters, he is predestined for the technical disciplines and causes a sensation once more and once more, especially in slalom. For example, for the first time in 2019 at the slalom in Kitzbühel (Austria). With starting number 71, he advanced to fifth place in the first race and finished ninth at the end. Since then, Popov has been consistently in the top 30, making the top 10 three more times.
So far it just hasn’t been enough for a podium place. In fourth place at the 2022 season finale, he missed this by just 16 hundredths. But who knows, maybe it will work, inspired by his engagement, yes next winter. (bir)
