FIFA announced on the 5th that the 2023 Women’s World Cup qualifying play-offs will be held in New Zealand from February 17 to 23 next year. This is the first qualifying play-off for the Women’s World Cup since its inception in 1991.

In 2019, FIFA decided to “expand” the Women’s World Cup from 24 to 32, and the 2023 Women’s World Cup jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand will thus become the event with the largest number of participating teams. There are 29 direct promotion places in the final stage of the tournament, of which two host teams automatically qualify for the promotion. The Chinese women’s football team has qualified for the final stage with its excellent performance in the Asian Cup. The final three final stage seats will be decided through qualifier play-offs.

There will be 10 teams participating in the Women’s World Cup preliminaries play-offs. Thailand and Chinese Taipei have been confirmed to enter the play-offs, and the remaining eight teams will qualify for the play-offs through their respective continental competitions.
