Samsung Electronics’ key executives directly supported the bid for the ‘2030 Busan International Expo (Expo)’. Samsung Electronics Device Experience (DX) Division Head (Vice Chairman) Han Jong-hee met Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard at the Lotte Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul on the 5th to share the status of local business and requested support for the Busan Expo.

Hak-gyu Park, head of Samsung Electronics’ Business Support Office (President) and Seong-an Choi, CEO of Samsung Engineering (CEO) also invited Carmen Moreno Toscano, Mexican Deputy Foreign Minister, and Bruno Figueroa Pischer, Mexican Ambassador to South Korea, to the Samsung Electronics headquarters in Suwon a day earlier. They visited the Samsung Innovation Museum (SIM) together and chatted. It is reported that Samsung also requested support for the Busan Expo bid at this meeting.

Samsung, which formed the ‘Busan Expo bid support task force (TF)’ in May, is in full swing with the bid project by utilizing the global network of its affiliates. Following Mexico, Samsung Electronics’ presidents plan to meet with government officials in Central and South America, such as Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Honduras, and Colombia. They visited Korea on the occasion of the ‘2022 Korea-Latin America Future Cooperation Forum’, which opened in Busan on the 5th and held for two days. Samsung plans to treat the support for the Busan Expo as its main agenda along with business cooperation in each country.

Samsung Electronics President Lee In-yong, executive member of the private committee to support the expo, will visit Fiji this month, where the ‘Pacific Island Forum (PIF) Summit’ will be held. It is known that the participating countries will ask for their support for Busan at the next year’s World Exposition Organization (BIE) general assembly.

Meanwhile, the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry held a ‘Korea-Mexico Business Round Table’ on the 5th. About 10 executives from major domestic groups, including Samsung, Hyundai, SK, and LG, attended and discussed global supply chain, green business cooperation, and investment expansion with Mexican officials, including Minister Ebrard.
