Eight injured in Minneapolis park shooting

Eight people were injured, some seriously, during a shooting in a Minneapolis park during unofficial celebrations for July 4, the United States’ Independence Day, authorities said.

Police said the shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. Monday at Boom Island Park.

“We were watching fireworks when we heard a lot of gunshots,” Kaayla Laanaee told WCCO-TV. “I just heard them go over my head into the trees. She was ducking me by the lake.”

The first responders converged on the park. The police began to investigate and place evidence markers.

Minneapolis Park Police said there was no formal Fourth of July event or fireworks at the park, but people had gathered there to celebrate the holiday.

Police say there are no arrests at this time. Authorities have not released details regarding the eight injured, who were taken to hospitals.
