In a brief ceremony held in the Cáceres Hall of the Government Palace around 9:15 pm, President Pedro Castillo swore in the new member of the ministerial cabinet.
This new appointment comes following Senmache presented his letter of resignation from the position following the Parliament’s decision to censure him for the escape of the former Minister of Transport and Communications, Juan Silva Villegas, and the deaths due to clashes between artisanal miners in Caravelí, Arequipa region. .
After the measure taken by Congress, the former Minister of the Interior pointed out that he “did not deserve” to be censured in office by the Congress of the Republic, much less for accusations that he described as “totally false.”

Cosme Mariano González Fernández is a lawyer by profession from the National University of San Agustín de Arequipa. He was Minister of Defense from July 2016 to November of the same year during the Pedro Pablo Kuczysnki government.
