Diabetics can live with the disease, but there are other patients who make some mistakes that harm them, which we mention to you, according to what the website “webmd” mentioned.
1. Taking medication incorrectly:
Dr. John Morton, Consultant Bariatric Surgeon at Yale University, USA, says that regarding 60% of patients do not take their medication as prescribed, so it is best not to skip or change the dose at all until following consulting a doctor.
2. Drinking the wrong drinks:
Your blood sugar level can rise if you don’t have enough fluid in your body, but some drinks cause your glucose levels to rise.
So it is best to take care of your water intake and reduce fruit and vegetable juices, sports drinks, alcohol and soft drinks.
3. Carbohydrates:
Your body breaks down carbohydrates into simple sugars also called glucose. Plus, pasta and rice have a lot of glucose and, for people with diabetes, eating too much can cause your sugar levels to increase.
Natural sugars also count, and it is best to replace them with fruits.
So Dr. Jill Noni Bland, chief of endocrinology at Howard University Hospital, recommends eating no more than two servings of fruit per day and trying to add more non-starchy vegetables to your meals.
4. Aerobic exercise:
Regular exercise can lower your blood sugar and help your body respond to insulin better. Exercise includes:
Walking, especially 15 minutes following a meal.
Bike riding.
Weight lifting.
Do strength training exercises for at least two days each week.
5. Skipping medical exams:
Diabetics are at risk of other health problems even if you eat right, take medication and get enough exercise.
However, certain tests must be carried out, regular visits to a specialist, and blood pressure, cholesterol, foot health, eyes, teeth, gums and kidneys monitored.
6. Lack of sleep:
Lack of sleep less than 7 to 9 hours a night increases your chances of developing some medical problems and makes it difficult to control your blood sugar and blood pressure, so it’s best to tell your doctor if you’re having trouble sleeping to help you get enough sleep.
7. Ignore your mental health
Mental health care should be part of your diabetes care plan, as depression or stress can affect your blood sugar in many ways.
