President of Uzbekistan declares a state of emergency in the country

A state of emergency was introduced on the territory of the Republic of Karakalpakstan in Uzbekistan, where mass riots took place. This was reported by the press secretary of the President of Uzbekistan Sherzod Asadov.

“By the Decree of the President, in order to ensure the safety of citizens, protect their rights and freedoms, restore law and order on the territory of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, a state of emergency was introduced for the period from July 3 to August 2, 2022,” Sherzod Asadov wrote in his telegram channel. A curfew will be in place in the republic from 19:00 to 05:00 for the period of emergency, local television informs, RIA Novosti reports.

Earlier it was reported that mass riots began in the autonomous republic of Karakalpakstan, which is part of Uzbekistan, due to the possible deprivation of autonomy and the right to secede from Uzbekistan, reports business publication “Vzglyad”. These initiatives are spelled out in the draft amendments to the State Constitution, adds “Gazeta.ru».
