By defending the city of Lysychansk, Ukraine is only trying to buy time for the arrival of western arms supplies. This was admitted by the governor of the Luhansk region, Serhiy Hajdaj, in an interview with the “Presse am Sonntag”.
The conquest of the sister city Sievjerodonetsk lasted four months. “In Lysychansk we use the same tactics. We need time to get weapons from the West.”
“I think that by the beginning of autumn we will change the situation on the battlefield,” Hajdaj said when asked regarding the timing of Ukraine’s counteroffensive. He admitted that Ukraine “really needs a lot of weapons”. “Partly” they are already there, but sometimes “one gets the impression that the West wants to prolong the war. It’s regarding Russia getting weaker and weaker until it might collapse,” Hajdaj surmised.
