Gary Harris extends to the Magic for 26 million over two years

At the end of the contract on the Orlando side, Gary Harris finally decided to extend his lease in the Florida franchise. The fullback signed a two-year, $26 million extension.

Very correct this season at the Magic (11.1 points in 28 minutes, 38% from afar), Gary Harris arrived at the Free Agency with a potential pick tag for a title contender. A “3&D” profile is always valuable on the market and we might therefore expect to see several ambitious teams position themselves on its case. This is all the more true when we know that his name came up in several trade rumors around the last trade deadline. The Playoffs, the race for Larry O’Brien, the back should not approach it this season because he has decided to extend his contract in Orlando. A valuable veteran to surround Paolo Banchero and the young Magic guard.

26 million over two years is a very nice check but given the market prices, it’s not necessarily too shocking because it’s a sought-following profile and it’s a deal that will be easily tradable if the player maintains a semblance of level. Able to play with the starters or help the second unit, Harris will continue to bring his defensive qualities and his address at long distance, an area where the Magic did not particularly shine last year (28th percentage of the League from the car park). It will be interesting to see the role that Jamahl Mosley has in store for him because the Orlando backcourt is already well supplied with Cole Anthony, Markelle Fultz or Jalen Suggs. If the plan is to highlight it to sell it better, it still has to be played. With the departure of Robin Lopez to Cleveland and the more than uncertain future of Terrence Ross (free in a year and who seems to have desires to leave), the Magic secures at least the services of a seasoned player to chaperone his young nuggets in the locker room. Fun fact: he is the second oldest player in the squad despite being only… 27 years old.

Gary Harris and Orlando, it’s not over! The rear plays overtime with the Florida franchise and he will come to play big brother around the Magic bottle class. 13 million for a mentor is well paid.
