Rudy Gobert leaves for Wolves and joins Karl-Anthony Towns!

WOJ Bombs keep falling at the start of Free Agency! While we already had a first big trade this Friday with the arrival of Malcolm Brogdon at the Celtics, it is a deal of an even greater magnitude that is igniting the NBA. Ladies and gentlemen, Rudy Gobert is coming to Wolves!

Just 24 hours ago, Kevin Durant requested his transfer from the Nets. In the meantime, there have been countless signings with the market opening Thursday evening at midnight. A few hours ago, Malcolm Brogdon was sent to the Celtics. And now, we have our national Rudy Gobert who is being transferred! The bomb was sent by Adrian Wojnarowski fromESPN, always faithful to the post to announce the biggest earthquakes. Inevitably, under the shock of the news, we wanted to know as soon as possible what was the counterpart released by Minnesota in such a trade. It fell shortly following, still from the hands of the Woj: Malik Beasley, Pat Beverley, rookie Walker Kessler, Jarred Vanderbilt, Leandro Bolmaro, and especially four first-round draft picks. Yes, the Wolves have just added Gobert to a roster already made up of Karl-Anthony Towns, Anthony Edwards, D’Angelo Russell and even the nugget Jaden McDaniels. In the short term the deal is therefore very heavy for Minnesota, but the Wolves had to drop an absolutely huge draft capital on the Jazz to secure the services of Rudy.

The trade

  • Minnesota recovers: Rudy Gobert
  • Utah recovers: Malik Beasley, Pat Beverley, Walker Kessler, Jarred Vanderbilt, Leandro Bolmaro, 2023 First Round Draft (unprotected), 2025 First Round Draft (unprotected), 2027 First Round (unprotected), 2029 First Round Draft (protected Top 5)

New Wolves boss Tim Connelly arrived a few weeks ago from Denver. He wasted no time putting on his balls on the table. It’s simple, in a few years, this move can only be seen in two possible ways: either it will allow Minnesota to really play the leading roles in the West until reaching heights never touched before (only a Final of Conference in the history of the franchise, in 2004), or it will be perceived as the transfer which sacrificed a whole part of the future of Wolves. In any case, today Minnesota officially changes dimension with the addition of a triple Defender of the Year who will form an XXL racket with KAT, while Anthony Edwards will do his crazy things outside. From a simple qualification in the Playoffs via the play-in tournament this year, the Wolves now seem capable of integrating the big leagues.

Jazz side? It is obviously the end of an era. By parting ways with Royce O’Neale yesterday once morest a Nets first-round draft pick, the Utah franchise felt like they were preparing for something bigger. And today, we find ourselves with this blockbuster on our hands which sounds like the beginning of a reconstruction, or at least a transition. Six first-round draft picks nabbed in 24 hours, no doubt it’s Danny Ainge who is in charge. According to Woj, the Jazz now intend to “revamp” their roster around star guard Donovan Mitchell, who has therefore been chosen over defensive stalwart Rudy Gobert to be the true face of the franchise’s next era. The premature and successive eliminations in the Playoffs therefore finally got the better of the duo and with the departure of coach Quin Snyder, on the Utah bench for the last eight seasons and replaced by the young and inexperienced Will Hardy, the Jazz are truly embarking on a new direction. And other moves are probably still to come concerning Mike Conley, Bojan Bogdanovic and Co.

Rudy Gobert and the Jazz, so it’s over. After nine seasons in Salt Lake City, three All-Star selections, four All-NBA selections, and three Defender of the Year titles, the tricolor giant will try to take a Minnesota team on the rise to the next level. A real change for Rudy, a great challenge too.
