Chaos at Montreal-Trudeau: “the slightest fortuitous event becomes a crisis” for the federal government

For Alain Therrien, parliamentary leader of the Bloc Québécois, the chaos that reigns at Montreal-Trudeau airport is only a consequence of a government “that does not know how to govern”.

“The federal government, once more, has not been able to do any planning, like with the case of passports. (…) It is a constant repetition of the incompetence of a government which brings consequences on all the citizens, ”believes Mr. Therrien.

Due to a labor shortage, carriers WestJet and Air Canada will reduce the number of flights offered this summer.

“We arrive in a situation where it overflows everywhere. I think they are forced to make these choices,” said the parliamentary leader.

Some people, whose luggage has been lost, even have to wait nearly 8 hours on the phone before someone from Air Canada picks up.

“It was the government that decided to open the borders. If he decides to open, he has to prepare. He knows there will be an increase in attendance because people have been confined for two years. (…) Once once more, it is a government that does not react upstream. The slightest fortuitous event becomes a terrible crisis,” he said.

Even if the federal government intends to increase the number of staff at airports, it is too late, according to Mr. Therrien.
