the release date is being specified (it’s coming soon)

The often well-informed MacRumors site shares the likely release date of the new MacBook Air with the M2 chip. For those who are waiting for the machine with a firm footing, the wait should not be very long.

Presented alongside MacBook Pro 13 M2 at Apple’s WWDC 2022 conference, the MacBook Air M2 is surely the announcement hardware the highlight of the event. We have already been able to test its big brother, but the lightest of the family is still desired. According MacRumors, the wait might end on July 15, the official release date that Apple would have chosen to market its product. Pre-orders would therefore begin a week before, on July 8 to be precise.

A MacBook Air M2 as light as it is powerful

The M2 chip is at the heart of the two new laptops presented by Apple. On the program: a nice evolution of the M1 chip with better performance of the processor and the graphics part, but also an (even) more solid autonomy. But what distinguishes the MacBook Air M2 from the Pro model is above all its design.

Apple has taken the codes from its latest MacBook Pro 14 and 16 to apply them to its lightest model. Thus, we find a larger 13.6-inch screen, thinner borders all around, a new 1080p webcam (with the magnificent notch…) and the return of the MagSafe connector which thus frees up a USB-C port. All in an extremely compact chassis (30.41 x 21.5 x 1.13 cm) and a weight that lives up to its name, only 1.24 kg.

The question that comes up the most is probably which MacBook M2 to choose between the Pro and Air version. We have already sketched out the beginning of an answer in our duel dedicated to the two machines, but it will be necessary to reach a proper test of the MacBook Air M2 to decide definitively.

The question of price remains. In their basic configurations, the MacBook Air M2 and MacBook Pro 13 M2 are respectively displayed at 1499 euros and 1599 euros. If you’re looking for a more affordable, yet capable model, the MacBook Air M1 is still in the catalog at 1199 euros. We look forward to seeing you on 01net in July for our full test of the new MacBook Air M2.
