Construction, IT, teaching… Discover the list of the 113 shortage professions in Brussels

The Brussels-Capital Region currently has 113 professions identified as critical functions, for which employers are struggling to recruit, said the regional employment office Actiris on Friday.

Construction, IT, education and personal care are particularly concerned. These professions attract too few candidates or those interested do not have the right qualifications (training, experience, language skills), explains Actiris. They can also involve difficult working conditions with heavy or dangerous work, weekend or night shifts, precarious status or low pay. In the official list of critical functions published by view.brussels, the Brussels Employment and Training Observatory, we find accountants, insurance managers, tile setters, site managers, construction machinery operators, masons , roofers, IT operations managers, guards, janitors, cooks, waiters, nurses, pharmacists, teachers or even drivers. Most professions have been on this list for several years.

The employment office therefore emphasizes that pursuing training or studies leading to these shortage occupations greatly increases the chances of finding a job. To obtain a job in these positions, there are also professional training courses with Actiris partners or work-study training (secondary or higher).
