The Under 20 Selection of Guatemala faced Mexico this Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the Concacaf World Cupand one of the great protagonists was Honduran referee Said Martínez.
The Bicolor went ahead on the scoreboard, at minute 29, thanks to the definition of Arquímidez Ordóñez. The equalizer for Mexico reached 74, following the goal scored by Esteban Lozano. The match was decided in favor of Guatemala on penalties, thanks to the performance of Jorge Moreno.
And that was the first controversy, Lozano’s goal. Internet users on social networks condemned that the ball touched the hand of the Mexican player before entering the goal, although the images cannot be seen clearly.
Guatemalan former referee Jonathan Polanco posted on Twitter that “Any handball prior to a goal must be sanctioned regardless of whether it is deliberate or not”according to Rule 12.
