Three women stabbed in Ottawa, suspect shot dead by police

Two women were stabbed to death and another was seriously injured Monday night in a residential area of ​​Ottawa. The suspect was shot dead following an altercation with police.

According to initial information, the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) was called to a residence on Anoka Street between Bank Street and Heron Road at approximately 10:30 p.m. in relation to a stabbing.

Upon arrival, officers saw a man stabbing a woman. The latter, refusing to obey orders to drop his knife, was shot on the spot by the officers who discharged their firearms.

The woman, “stabbed several times and seriously injured, is still in hospital,” the OPS said in a statement Tuesday morning. The latter was also hit by one of the projectiles, but the bullet wound would not be life-threatening, the Ontario Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said in a statement.

The bodies of two other victims, also women, were also found by the authorities near the scene of the altercation.

These three stabbing cases are being investigated by the OPS Homicide Unit.

The SIU has been tasked with investigating the suspect’s death, it said.

“Two investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case. They are in the process of confirming the identity of the man and the woman [atteints par balle]. So far, three subject officers and six witness officers have been named. An autopsy of the man’s body is scheduled for tomorrow,” said SIU spokesperson Monica Hudon.
