Yesterday “KAMAZ” for the first time demonstrated to the public “Jupiter-30” is an unmanned cabless dump truck designed to work in quarries. Its weight is 50 tons.
The car is capable of transporting cargo weighing up to 30 tons in fully automatic or remote mode. Driving speed is limited to 56 km/h.
“Jupiter-30” is unlikely to become a replacement for the heavier and more powerful Caterpillar and BelAZ, but the first step in this direction has been made. It is designed for autonomous transportation of loosened rock mass or ore and can work in places where human presence is dangerous.
“Jupiter” was originally designed as an autonomous vehicle for work in a quarry. It is equipped with all necessary equipment. It has special video cameras protected from dust, dirt, moisture and vibrations, 2D and 3D lidars, ultrasonic sensors, and radars. There are also GSM antennas and GPS/GLONASS navigation. Both of his bridges are swivel, due to which the car has good maneuverability.
This is an absolute novelty and world premiere. This is the first sample of a new line of rigid-frame KAMAZ mining dump trucks of the Jupiter family. The following models will be more load-bearing, and the company will develop them over the next years.
They haven’t talked regarding serial production yet, but they presented KamAZ as a whole, they were rather restrained in their comments regarding the new equipment.
Users reacted differently to the novelty: someone considered it a progress for the modern automotive industry in Russia, someone joked regarding the moonshine still of the same name, and someone remembered the R1 tram presented in 2014, which was made in a single copy and was not allowed into mass production due to technological difficulties.
