Among them, Hon Hai has won the top revenue for 17 consecutive years, TSMC has been the profit leader for 18 consecutive years, and the shipping industry has made a great leap forward. For the first time, it set a historical record of the top 3 business performance of a single-industry contracted enterprise.

In 2021, the prices of Taiwan’s leading products in the semiconductor industry, crude oil, steel and other raw materials industries will soar, and shipping will be in short supply due to port congestion. The prosperity is also reflected in the overall operation of the top 5,000 private enterprises (including the financial industry, referred to as the “Top 5,000” for short), making a lot of opportunity and transformation. It can also be said that Taiwan has entered the era of the strongest supply chain in history.
According to a press release issued by the China Credit Information Service, the total revenue of the top 5000 companies exceeded a record high of 40 trillion yuan for the first time, with three highlights.
Highlight 1: In terms of scale, among the top 10 companies in terms of net revenue, for the first time since the survey, 5 companies have exceeded one trillion yuan in revenue, followed by Hon Hai Precision Industry, TSMC, Compal Computer Industries, Pegatron and Quanta Computer. Among them, Hon Hai’s net revenue of 3.6437 trillion yuan has not only been the champion for 17 consecutive years, but also has a revenue gap of 2 trillion yuan with TSMC, which ranks second.
In addition, Compal Computer rose from No. 5 in 2020 to No. 3, successfully overtaking Pegatron and Quanta. Among the top 10 companies by revenue, the electronics manufacturing industry led by Hon Hai has 6 seats, and the life insurance industry and public institutions each have 2 seats.
Highlight 2: In terms of profitability, in 2021, the total following-tax net profit of the 5,000 largest enterprises will hit a record high of 5,570.9 billion yuan. Among the top 10 following-tax net profits, TSMC’s profit scale is better than the sum of the three major shipping companies. 596.5 billion yuan, winning the profit king once more for 18 consecutive years.
However, the global shipping container supply is in short supply, and the surge in freight rates has boosted performance. Evergreen, Yangming, and Wanhai Shipping, the three major shipping companies, have made a big leap in their rankings and entered the most profitable companies with their net profit rates of 254.58%, 67.53%, and 89.09%. In the top 10, Evergreen, Yangming and Wanhai ranked 2nd, 3rd and 9th respectively.
Highlight 3: Among the top 10 industries in terms of business performance, there are 3 shipping companies, 3 traditional manufacturing companies and 4 IC design companies. Among them, Yang Ming, Wan Hai, and Evergreen were among the top three due to their outstanding growth in revenue and profit, setting a historical record of the top three in terms of business performance of single-industry contractors for the first time.
In addition, the IC design industry, which plays an important role in the supply chain in consumer electronics fields such as smart phones, Internet of Things, smart homes, power chips, and driver ICs, is sprinting for shipments of automotive products, including Novatek, Sitronix , Tianyu Technology and Duntai Electronics, all achieved high operating performance scores at both ends of revenue and profit in 2021, ranking 6th, 8th, 9th and 10th respectively.
