Hail, heavy rain, storm: severe weather warning for parts of Bavaria

DWD meteorologist: “Steam in the boiler”

In many regions of Germany, people will have to prepare for severe weather hazards in the coming days. According to the German Weather Service, there might be heavy rain, heavy gusts of wind and hail in large parts of the country by the weekend, in individual cases the grains can be as big as table tennis balls.

“There’s still steam in the boiler, because there’s practically no change in the current weather situation,” said a meteorologist from the DWD. The high risk of thunderstorms is caused by a low pressure area near the British Isles and a high pressure area over Eastern Europe. They ensure that humid Mediterranean air flows into Germany from the south and south-west. There is then an air mass limit exactly over Germany, in the area of which showers and thunderstorms with severe weather potential can occur once more and once more.

High temperature differences

While up to 32 degrees are expected in eastern Bavaria today, the temperatures in Lower Franconia are sometimes below 20 degrees. The weather service also expects stronger thunderstorms in eastern Germany.

Thunderstorms and storms are likely to brew once more tomorrow, especially in the southern half of Germany, which will then move north on Wednesday night. According to the weather service, it should be quite unstable almost all over Germany on Wednesday with muggy and warm temperatures.
