He looks scary, this Joaquin Ardaiz. Tattooed up to the neck. A bird of paradise, a showman. And one who provided the music in the past Challenge League season. The Uruguayan has scored 20 goals for FC Schaffhausen. League Best. Thanks to Ardaiz, the north-eastern Swiss dreamed of promotion until the end, in the first leg of the Barrage he was the best man on the pitch in a 2-2 win over FCL.
FCL defender Mohamed Dräger said following the game that Ardaiz should actually be signed immediately. Now sports director Remo Meyer has fulfilled this wish. The nine signed in the city of lights until 2025, Meyer says: “With Joaquin we can add an additional component to our offensive game.”
A million for Ardaiz
While the FCL is happy regarding a spectacular player, the FCSG has to do without the South American’s services. According to Blick information, the eastern Swiss are said to have put out feelers to Ardaiz, but the demands of player advisor Pablo Betancourt, who owns most of the player, were too high. The transfer fee should be around one million Swiss francs.
It is not surprising that the FCSG does not participate, as the St.Gallen team under Matthias Hüppi is known for working seriously economically (and keeping their hands off financially risky transfers).
And that despite the fact that following the departure of Kwadwo Duah to Nuremberg you urgently need a striker. The man from Bern scored 15 goals for FCSG in the last Super League season. It is clear that the aspens still have to replace the top scorer.
St.Gallen needs Duah replacement
However, the FCSG is not caught on the wrong foot, Hüppi already said at the start of training that one or the other personality might arouse interest, but that no players would be sold off. According to BILD, FCSG collects around 700,000 euros for Duah. A whopping sum for a player whose contract would have expired in a year.
And an amount that will probably be partly invested in a successor. It won’t be Ardaiz.
