A beach has been evacuated on the Tarragona side. In question, the presence of two sharks reported very close to the edge.
Two lifeguards who were monitoring a beach in L’Hospitalet de l’Infant south of Tarragona (Catalonia) evacuated the very many people present in the water and on the sand while two sharks had been spotted a few meters from the edge.
According The newspaper, they were two blue sharks with a length of regarding 3 meters. After evacuating the swimming area and alerting the emergency services, the rescuers raised the red flag prohibiting all swimming.
The crowded beach on this St. John’s Day weekend was able to reopen once the sharks moved away from shore.
The blue shark is not rare at all in this area of the Mediterranean. It rarely attacks humans and as such is not considered dangerous. According to specialists, the rare attacks on humans by blue sharks have taken place in deep waters. It is often the young blue sharks that venture the furthest to shore.
