Last-minute calls for July 1 moves are skyrocketing, says Pierre-Olivier Cyr, co-owner of Déménagement Le Clan Panneton.
“People are suggested to move their move, either a little before or following the move to be able to do as many moves as possible,” says Cyr.
The co-owner explains that his company expected a less busy year, but the opposite is happening.
“60% of the calls received are from people who are being evicted from their apartment. So instead of being owners, we are moving tenants. And there is panic because many do not know where they are going,” says Mr. Cyr.
“It’s a bit of chaos this year,” he believes.
Pierre-Olivier Cyr admits that prices have increased in recent years, but this increase is justifiable, according to him.
“This year we had terrible inflation. If we talk regarding 10 years ago, moving with three men and a truck was $90 [de l’heure]. This year, we are talking regarding $350 [de l’heure]», lance M. Cyr.
He defends himself from “filling his pockets”, affirming that the labour, the gasoline and the trucks cost much more than before.
“This year we were fooled by inflation, but also the war in Ukraine,” he said. The price of cardboard boxes is also skyrocketing.
“We try to save people money, but we’re not here to make losses either,” says the entrepreneur.
