Castilla-La Mancha has increased by more than 66 percent the number of resident doctors in the specialty of Occupational Medicine
The general director of Human Resources, Íñigo Cortázar, has announced that SESCAM is working to transform the Occupational Medicine Teaching Unit into a Multidisciplinary Unit that includes the training of Resident Nurses in this specialty.
Toledo, June 26, 2022.- The general director of Human Resources of the Health Service of Castilla-La Mancha, Íñigo Cortázar, has welcomed this week the five resident doctors of the Teaching Unit of Occupational Medicine who will complete their training in the public health centers of Albacete, Ciudad Real, Cuenca, Guadalajara, Talavera de la Reina and Toledo, which represent 66 percent more than five years ago.
During the welcome ceremony, in which he was accompanied by the head of the Specialized Health Training service, Francisco López de Castro, and the head of studies, Miguel Ull, Cortázar announced that SESCAM is working to transform the Teaching Unit of Occupational Medicine in a Multidisciplinary Unit that includes the training of Occupational Resident Nurses.
“We hope that soon the Occupational Nurse can be incorporated into the Teaching Unit, since the Castilla-La Mancha Health Service has already held the first meetings with the National Council of Specialties to obtain the accreditation of Occupational Resident Nurse”, has indicated.
Currently, Castilla-La Mancha is accredited to provide postgraduate nursing training in Geriatrics, Paediatrics, Mental Health, Family and Community Care and Midwifery.
For the General Director of Human Resources, “the pandemic has come to demonstrate the absolutely strategic role that occupational health has within any organization, but above all in a health service, given that you are the professionals who take care of the health of the professionals who They take care of people.”
In this sense, he has reported that “the pandemic situation we are going through has made it possible to extend the Occupational Risk Prevention services in all the health departments dependent on SESCAM where they were not previously available. Thus, large centers have been created in Toledo, Albacete, Ciudad Real, Cuenca, Guadalajara and Talavera de la Reina”.
In addition, the general director of Human Resources has assured that “since 2017 the number of resident doctors who will complete their training in Castilla-La Mancha has increased from three to five, of which the first promotion is already working with us thanks to the Contractual Perspective and Talent Retention Plan of the Government of Castilla-La Mancha that was launched in 2020”.
Finally, the general director of Human Resources has recalled that Castilla-La Mancha is one of the regions that has increased the most in the last seven years the offer of places for the training of health specialists, going from the 194 that were offered in the year 2014 to the 439 that have been offered in the 2021-2022 course, which represents an increase of 126 percent.
