Controversy – Benkirane goes to war against “gender equality in inheritance” and “the ban on the marriage of minors”

Like Don Quixote of La Mancha. The secretary general of the Justice and Development Party (PJD), Abdelilah Benkirane, seized the opportunity of his meeting on Saturday with members of the party’s national committee to reaffirm his populist positions on social issues, in particular “the gender equality” in Morocco.

Benkirane, whose remarks were relayed by the Arabic-language site Hespress.com, thus reiterated his categorical rejection of calls for gender equality in matters of inheritance.

According to the leader of the Lamp party – who seems enlightened at the start of the summer – affirms that this last question was “decided” by the Koranic text and does not accept any exegesis.

He also expressed his opposition to calls “to ban the marriage of underage girls”, saying the matter falls within the jurisdiction of judges.

“Moroccans have no problem with inheritance and they haven’t complained to anyone (regarding it),” he said, calling on the PJDists not to remain silent on this issue.

+ Frontal attack and demagogic approach +

Benkirane attacked, in a frontal and demagogic way, the leader of the PJD, the president of the National Council for Human Rights (CNDH), Amina Bouayach.

“When you accuse Islam of feminizing poverty, do you understand what you are saying, or are you just saying random words? “, he said to the address of the former human rights activist, considering his call for equality in inheritance as “an accusation of injustice towards God and his messenger”.

Regarding the marriage of minors, Benkirane felt that it is up to the judges to decide whether or not the young girl can marry.

He also said he was surprised by the opposition of some to early marriage “without taking into account the social context and the situation of each of the girls concerned”, believing that “not all women are like Mrs. Bouayach, in this sense that there are families who do not find, according to him, enough to feed their children.

“You oppose the marriage of minors, but you defend sexual relations outside marriage, even between minors”, he chained before adding: “We are not once morest the rights of women, and if there is a call for dialogue within the framework of Sharia (Isamic law), we will welcome it”.

+ Pre-election political speech and attempt to mobilize bearded men… +

In this regard, Benkirane stressed the need for members of his party to remain attached to the Islamic reference and to show it in their behavior.

“It is not important for the party to obtain positive electoral results, but what is important is that it remains attached to what it represents, that is to say religion, the principles , morality and dignity. What is important is that the party remains the PJD and that its members keep their heads held high”.

Addressing the international situation, Benkirane considered that “no one knows where the Russian-Ukrainian war will take us”, adding that “in this context, we must remain attached to our Islamic reference and to our king as the nation’s imam and Commander of the Faithful”.

The secretary general also revealed that he has contacts with Aziz Akhannouch, stressing that the latter is today the head of government and that “his success will be that of all of Morocco”, warning, however, once morest those who won the last elections in the name of the party of the dove and of whom “most of them are not worthy” of being entrusted with the responsibility of the interests of the citizens.
