The hospital center of this city to the east of the capital in the Thiès region will be level 3. This same religious city was shaken last month by the death of eleven infants during the fire in the neonatology premises of the current health facility.

Macky Sall launched Saturday, June 25 in Tivaouane the work of a hospital with 300 beds and equipment ” latest generation », which will host more than twenty medical and surgical specialties including paediatrics, gastroenterology and nephrology. The structure will cost 46 billion CFA francs (nearly 71 million euros) and is expected to be completed in December 2023.

This ceremony took place in the presence of several members of the government, including the new Minister of Health, Marie Khémesse Ngom Ndiaye, who had been appointed following the dramatic fire which claimed the lives of eleven babies last May.

But the Head of State made it clear that the construction of this health structure ” is not related to this deadly fire. The project already existed due to the demographic development of the religious city, whose level 1 hospital might no longer meet the demand.

This new health establishment is then part of the same policy as the inauguration of the regional hospitals of Kédougou, Kaffrine or Touba.

But since several tragic events including the death in childbirth of Astou Sokhna and her baby, the Patients in Danger collective continues to denounce insufficient hospital structures in the country.
