A new children’s literature festival is born in Vevey – rts.ch

On June 18 and 19, the first edition of the Vevey Children’s Literature Festival is held. Two days of meetings, events and activities in different places in the Vaudois town aimed at young readers.

A dozen authors, illustrators, illustrators and publishers met this weekend to launch the first edition of the Vevey Youth Literature Festival.

A free event that aims to be intimate and locally rooted. Thus, a prominent place is given to Swiss artists with the presence of Christine Pompei, Sylvie Neeman, Olivier May, Roland Godel, Denis Kormann, Estelle and Nicolas Imhof, Delphine Fiore, Nathalie Wyss and Virginie Jobé-Truffer. Similarly, two publishing houses in the region, Entreligne and Jobé-Truffer located respectively in Gruyère and Montreux, are on site.

A very abundant area

Located in several places in the Vaud city, signings, writing or illustration workshops, shows and other activities around children’s books are offered to children, from the youngest to teenagers. Meetings with authors also take place in Vevey classes on June 16 and 17, 2022.

This new festival was imagined by Violaine Vidal. Passionate regarding children’s literature, she worked for a few years for the association “The Battle of Books” which promotes reading among young people. The opportunity to meet many actors and actresses in this environment and to see that it is a field “hyper abundant and in which a lot is happening”, she indicates to the RTS.

Desacralize reading

She also discovers that these authors like to meet their readership and that the reverse is also true. And especially that these meetings make it possible to “desacralize reading so that it is not for a child something too inaccessible or too serious”, she specifies.

Violaine Vidal begins to dream of a festival that would take place in the Vaud Riviera and involves in this adventure Nathalie Guisolan, with whom she shares an office and values. Among these, open-mindedness to current themes. “We think that children’s literature is a great tool for discovering the world and for opening the mind to a whole host of subjects. This theme will also be the subject of a round table for teenagers”, further specifies Violaine Vidal .

Literature is a great way to open the minds of children

A dream that becomes reality with this first edition which already seems to have found its audience since a good part of the workshops for which it is necessary to register are already complete or regarding to be.
