Ukrainian Ambassador Melnik put forward two conditions for Scholz to visit Kyiv

Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany Andriy Melnyk commented on reports regarding the forthcoming German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s visit to Kyivwhich is expected in the Ukrainian capital on June 16.

According to the diplomat, the Ukrainian side in some way sets the German leader two conditions, without which his visit will not make sense. According to local media, as the first condition, the ambassador called the requirement that the chancellor “clearly, without any “buts” and “ifs” promised that Ukraine will receive the status of a candidate for EU membership.

“For the European Council to unanimously adopt this historic decision next week,” Melnik said.

The second condition, according to him, is to put an end to Berlin’s hesitation regarding the supply of weapons to Kyiv. According to Melnyk, Germany should help Ukraine with weapons both from the stocks of the Bundeswehr and through supplies from its own military industry.
