The federal government is not Disney

Have you tried contacting Disney customer service lately?

Imagine the thousands of small lights that animate the circuits of the telephone exchange. After two years of the pandemic, imagine the number of parents around the world who finally have to fulfill the oft-deferred promise to go to Disney!

A mess ? No. At most 15 minutes of waiting to get a friendly representative, able to trace tickets purchased in February 2020 and lost in the cloud computing of the global giant.

Parents relieved. Finally, the big dream will be realized!

Uh, no… The passports are missing, ordered at the beginning of April, still not arrived. And even if mom camped 24 hours at Complexe Guy-Favreau, we might miss our plane!

The federal government is not Disney.

Not only is there no Prince Charming or Tinkerbell, it seems more and more obvious that he lacks a minimum of competence in the face of the essentials.

Somewhere else

Much has been said regarding the “elsewhere” of Quebecers; I found that of the Trudeau government! He is in “the rest”.

Because Ottawa loves to mingle with the rest. Equality, exclusion. The provinces especially.

To be indignant in front of the law 21. To establish a national network of nurseries, a dental insurance. Get involved in long-term care. Consider an EA for the third link. Threatening to engage in caribou protection.

When it comes to meddling in the rest, that which concerns areas of provincial jurisdiction, the Trudeau government always responds.

This “remnant” is the grand vision of a progressive, inclusive, post-national Canada. A Canada of tomorrow, “elsewhere” from the banalities of today’s life.

Ici

For the here and now, it is clear that we are plunged into a great stalemate.

For what are the most basic functions of the federal government, its exclusive areas of jurisdiction? Passports, airports, foreign affairs, national defense.

With regard to passports, the minister does not know when we can envisage a return to normal. Maybe because of the labor shortage, Goofy was put in charge of planning?

Little thinning in sight at airports. The suspension of the health passport will not solve the logistical problems, warned the Minister of Transport.

Mélanie Joly is still mired in her half-truths following her office allowed a senior civil servant to go sip champagne at the Russian Embassy. Maybe she should blame her wicked godmother Hex.

As for National Defence. It looks like Sleeping Beauty Castle asleep in a forest of brambles guarded by the dragon of 1960s machismo.

If we were in a Disney movie, Prince Charming or the courageous Mulan would come to free the government from its stalemate.

It is high time for this government to wake up and realize that governing is not a fairy tale.
