An incident took place this Wednesday at the beginning of the followingnoon, around 1:15 p.m., on the main runway of Liège Ariport. An ASL Jet Netherlands BE20 trainer, which was performing touch-and-go, was unable to extend its landing gear and landed quite brutally on the runway, the airport said.
The airport firefighters intervened and doused the plane with foam to prevent a fire.
More fear than harm for the instructor pilot and the student who were not injured “but the damage to the main runway must be assessed”. The plane, meanwhile, has damage to the propellers.
The main runway 04R/22L is closed, the airport remains open and planes use the contingency runway. Several long-haul planes are on standby and the services of the airport and the Direction Générale du Transport Aérien are working to evacuate the plane and estimate the damage.
