The mayor of Severodonetsk is still holding the city… not isolated

Ukrainian forces are still holding Severodonetsk, a key point in the eastern Donbas region (which encompasses Donetsk and Luhansk provinces), the city’s mayor said.

Severodonetsk Mayor Oleksandr Streuk told Telegram on the 15th (local time) that “Ukrainian forces are still controlling the industrial zone.”

The chemical industrial zone mentioned by Mayor Streuk refers to the Azot chemical plant in Severodonetsk.

Ukrainian forces are resisting Russian forces using the Azot chemical plant as their last stronghold.

“The situation is difficult but stable,” Strieuk said.

He also said that the city of Severodonetsk was not completely cut off from the outside world.

On the previous day, mayor Streuk said that the last bridge connecting the city to Lisichansk on the other side of the Sibersky Donets River was destroyed by heavy shelling by Russian troops.

“The blasting of the bridge complicates the situation, but there are still retreat routes,” Strieuk said.

Severodonetsk is a strategic center of the Donbas-Luhansk Oblast.

The Russian Army has strengthened its attack by pouring intensive artillery fire on the area in recent months, and the Ukrainian Army has also continued to inject manpower and materials to defend the area.

“After more than a month of intense offensive, Russian forces are now occupying Severodonetsk,” the British Defense Intelligence Agency (DI) said on Twitter. .
