During its Showcase, Capcom shared many surprises, including one that puts the latest generation consoles in the spotlight by offering an update for the remakes of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 but also Resident Evil 7.

An exception that proves the rule

After officially revealing the release of a remake of Resident Evil 4 during the State of Play conference, Capcom continues to chain surprises and takes advantage of its own showcase to announce a second youth to remakes of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 et Resident Evil 7.
Indeed, it is via an update, available immediately, that these games are enriched with an optimized graphic rendering, in addition to a deeper immersion thanks to the new audio spatialization in 3D.

Alas, when it comes to Resident Evil 7, not everyone is going to be able to benefit from it because copies obtained as part of the PlayStation Plus Collection are not eligible for this free upgrade for PS5. So players have to get their hands on the wallet if they want to get the game in its enhanced version. Remember that the PlayStation Plus Collection is available to all owners of a PS5 who subscribe to PlayStation Plus. In particular, it gives the possibility of playing a selection of cult games that marked the PS4 generation, of which Resident Evil 7 is obviously a part.

Rebel!

But this is not the first game to spill ink on this subject. Last year, it is Final Fantasy VII Remake which suffered the exact same restrictions following being offered to gamers as part of the PlayStation Plus subscription in March 2021. So if it was impossible to upgrade the game for PS5 owners at first, Sony ended up changing its tune and it wasn’t until later, in December 2021, that gamers were able to grab the upgrade for free.. A news that had particularly annoyed some players who decided to checkout in the meantime.

As for Resident Evil 7, we don’t know if Sony will also reverse their decision.
