Looking for a small projector capable of delivering a good Full HD image with an ambitious integrated sound system? The Screeneo U4 from Philips might catch your eye. We plan to test it soon.
Philips Projection is preparing to market the Screeneo U4. It is an ultra-short throw projector in a compact format capable of displaying a Full HD 1080p image of 80 “diagonal (203 cm) with a setback of 30.5 cm. “After the huge success of the Screeneo U3, we immediately understood that we would have to go even further with the Philips Screeneo U4 from a technological point of view, while opting for a more compact format”explains Dan Mamane, president of Screeneo Innovation.
The company touts the compactness of the projector, which it says is suitable for installation in any room, not just the living room. Only 19.5 cm from the wall, it already allows you to enjoy a 60″ diagonal (152 cm) image. Glued to the wall, it delivers its smallest possible image, i.e. 15″ diagonal. The simplicity of installation will also be one of the advantages of the product: automatic focusing, keystone correction and angle correction are done in a few seconds.
The projection technology used is DLP (adjustable mirrors) manufactured by Texas Instruments, combined with an LED light source reducing power consumption and greatly improving lifespan compared to a UHP (ultra high pressure) lamp. The longevity is 30,000 hours according to the manufacturer, or 40 years at the rate of one film per day. Another advantage: the start-up of the projector promises to be fast.
On the connection side, the small size of the Screeneo U4 does not prevent it from carrying enough ports for full use, with two HDMI 2.0 ports, a USB-A and a 3.5 mm mini-Jack, in addition to a Bluetooth connection. As with regard to image quality, we will not comment on the sound part before having been able to test this projector which embeds a “2.1 system” of 2×15 Watts with an integrated bass module.
For now, the Screeneo U4 is exclusively offered through the Indiegogo platformbut might in the future be found via other distribution channels at a probably higher price (the basic price being indicated at 1199 €).
