No Swiss passport for shoplifters
The Aargau parliament prevents a young person from being naturalized. The reason: He stole several times.

Three shoplifters worth CHF 122.90 became a stumbling block on the way to a Swiss passport for a young foreigner in the canton of Aargau. The cantonal parliament rejected his application for naturalization on Tuesday by 74 to 50 votes.
SVP, FDP and large parts of the center voted once morest the request, for SP, Greens and GLP. The young person’s behavior was “disrespectful and cheeky,” said the FDP.
The municipality had assured the young person of municipal citizenship in December 2020. During the clarifications at the cantonal level, it was found that he had an entry in the youth prosecutor’s office for violating the law.
Adapters and clothes stolen
The young foreigner, who is completing an apprenticeship as a polymechanic, was caught stealing from a department store in spring 2021. He was 15 years old then. He stole a USB mains adapter worth 19.95 francs and a man’s shirt worth 34.95 francs. The police caught him.
He stated that he had taken a T-shirt worth CHF 34 with him two days earlier without paying. He was sanctioned with a fine of 100 francs.

For this reason, the naturalization commission of the Great Council, which has to examine the positive naturalizations of the communities, spoke out once morest the approval of the application. But in March, at the request of the SP parliamentary group, Parliament decided to take this request and examine it once more. From their point of view, the offenses are juvenile stupidity.
At the second attempt, the Commission came to the conclusion, by means of a casting vote, that a rejection of the application would be disproportionate. The majority of the Grand Council now saw things differently. (SDA)
