Xinhua News Agency, Doha, June 13 (Reporter Liu Yang) The International Football Association Board (IFAB) held its 136th plenary meeting in Doha on the 13th, approving the long-term retention of the currently implemented 5-player rotation rule.

The meeting confirmed the revision of some rules, and the new rules will be implemented from July 1, 2022. FIFA President Infantino and other FIFA officials and England, Scotland, Wales and other football associations attended the meeting.

After the outbreak of the epidemic, many competitions were shortened and the schedules were intensive. In order to reduce the risk of player injury, IFAB introduced temporary regulations in 2020, allowing five replacements in a single game in top leagues and international competitions. This provision has been extended several times since then and is still in effect today. The meeting decided to adopt the suggestions of football people and continue this regulation for a long time.

The meeting also decided to expand the upper limit of the bench list of participating teams from 12 to 15; to extend the trial period of the rules for temporary substitution of players due to concussions to August 2023, and to collect enough data before making a final decision.

The meeting discussed some innovative tests, including how to calculate game time more accurately, and referees use body cameras to enforce the law in grassroots football games. The relevant tests will be carried out under the supervision of the Council and FIFA.
