The Venezuelan Ministry of Health reported through social networks that it detected the first case of a patient infected with monkeypox in Venezuela.
The passenger landed at the Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía from Madrid.
The authorities indicated that the patient “had contact with two infected in the city of Barcelona“, Spain.
“It was isolated Immediately, the pertinent tests were carried out and a sample was taken, giving a positive result, with stable health conditions,” the ministry added in a Twitter thread.
Venezuela is facing a crisis that has forced the departure of more than six million people in recent years, reports the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR).
The lack of access to medicines and medical assistance is one of the reasons that explains the mass exodus of Venezuelans, according to UNHCR.
How to identify monkeypox?
Since the beginning of May, health authorities from various nations, from Europe to Canada, the United States and Australia, began detecting cases of this strange diseasewhose previous outbreaks had been contained.
The United Kingdom Health Security Agency (Ukhsa) notes that, at first, the symptoms of the disease are usually similar to those of the flu and include:
• inflamed lymph nodes
The most characteristic symptom appears 1 to 5 days following the fever: a rash which often starts on the face and then spreads to other parts of the body, mainly hands and feet.
In many of the current cases, people have reported the appearance of the rash on the genital area.
The way they look like these blisters it changes and goes through different stages before finally forming a crust which then falls off.
If a person presents this type of rash, they should go to the doctor and isolate themselves to avoid transmitting the disease to others.
