British runner Lightfoot beats horses in marathon | sports

Britain’s Ricky Lightfoot harnessed all his might and won a 22-mile (35 kilometer) horse-front marathon in Wales, becoming the first human to outpace an animal in such a race in 15 years.

Lightfoot, 37, crossed the finish line following two hours, 22 minutes and 23 seconds last Saturday, overtaking the “Lane House Boy”, led by Kim Allman, who came two minutes and one second behind.

This is only the third time in 41 years in the history of racing that a human has outperformed a horse.

Lightfoot equaled Florian Holtinger’s achievement in 2007, as well as sprinter Q-Loup, who did it three years earlier.

The marathon was held with the participation of 1,200 runners competing with a team of 60 horses over a distance of 35 km.

Lightfoot won a prize of 3,500 pounds ($4,265) and joked that he might compete in the Grand National Horse Race!
